"You've got to learn to survive a defeat. That's when you develop character." Richard Nixon |
With over a decade of experience as a resume professional, it's safe to say that I'd never attempt to write my own resume. It's one thing to keep good records of job history, ongoing education, awards received, special certifications, licenses, and skills. It's quite another to assume that I can take that figurative "step back" that will allow me to truly see (and effectively describe) my skills, accomplishments and potential contributions to another organization. At least half of our clients have spent hours, even days or weeks, trying to put together their own resume package before they finally decide they need professional help. It's trite, but accurate to compare this to anything else you would seek professional help for. I'm a lousy (and unwilling) gardener and an even worse landscape designer. After approaching that particular challenge from every side I could, I've finally decided that professional help is called for. Resumes call for the same action. |
